Dry needling performed on the lower back
Dry Needling
Dry needling is a technique that uses a small thin needle to target muscles that have been found to be tight or guarding. The goal is to locate what are called “Trigger-points” or tight bands in the muscle and use the needle to allow the band to loosen up and relax by way of bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the muscle.
The difference between dry needling and acupuncture is that in traditional acupuncture the needle usually only pierces the skin and does not go into the muscle. In traditional acupuncture they are also using specific points that are said to correlate with different parts of the body, but the research is still unclear on that. With dry needling we are targeting specific regions of a muscle that have been found to be problematic by the provider.
Dry needling is just one of the many services we offer and we always keep the patients values and concerns in mind when developing a treatment plan. If you are interested in getting started treating an injury that has been bothering you, schedule today!
