Chiropractic manipulation
Chiropractic manipulation or often called an Adjustment can be a great tool to use specifically for joints that are giving a patient pain and aren’t moving well. There are many styles of manipulation depending on the area of the body, although the spine is the most common area where we might deliver an adjustment.
With a manipulation we often hear a “pop” called a cavitation, and what that actually is, is gases from inside a joint capsule that have quickly turned into bubbles and then pop. The joint is typically able to go through a wider range of motion after a manipulation and there is even biochemical analgesic effect noted after a manipulation, which is one reason why patients might feel some relief afterwards.
Although adjustments are very common in Chiropractic treatment, we don’t rely on them exclusively for treatment and we encourage patients to take part in active rehab to help make sure their injury gets fully resolved and doesn’t return.
